Lettuce Tour 2026

Lettuce, the funk and jazz-funk collective, coalesced in 1992 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. The initial lineup featured Erick Coomes on bass, Adam Deitch on drums, Adam Smirnoff on guitar, and Neal Evans on keyboards, with Ryan Zoidis on saxophone and Eric Bloom on trumpet joining shortly thereafter, solidifying the core sextet. Their sound is characterized by a deep groove, drawing heavily from the P-Funk tradition, Meters-esque syncopation, and the improvisational spirit of jazz. They blend tight, horn-driven melodies with extended instrumental sections, often featuring intricate interplay between Coomes’ foundational basslines and Deitch’s propulsive drumming, all underpinned by Evans’ rich harmonic textures and the dual guitar work of Smirnoff and occasionally others.

A Lettuce live performance is an immersive experience, a masterclass in collective improvisation and rhythmic precision. The band prioritizes a raw, unadulterated musical connection, often eschewing elaborate stage theatrics for a focus on the sonic landscape. Their setlists are fluid, incorporating extended jams and unexpected transitions that ensure no two shows are identical. While they can fill larger theater-sized venues, their sound truly shines in spaces that allow for a more intimate, yet still expansive, audience engagement. The energy is palpable, driven by the band’s visible enjoyment of their craft, creating an atmosphere that encourages dancing and communal celebration.

Over their extensive career, Lettuce has cultivated a significant discography, including albums that have become touchstones for contemporary funk. Their 2012 album, "Fly," marked a pivotal moment, showcasing a refined production quality while retaining their signature live energy. Tracks like "House of Lett" have become anthems within their live performances, celebrated for their infectious grooves and opportunities for extended improvisation. Beyond their studio work, Lettuce has been a consistent presence at major music festivals, bringing their unique brand of funk to diverse audiences across the globe, solidifying their reputation as a premier live act.

Lettuce occupies a unique space within the broader jam band and funk scenes. Their appeal extends beyond traditional jazz enthusiasts, attracting fans of hip-hop, R&B, and rock who appreciate their instrumental virtuosity and infectious rhythms. Audiences at a Lettuce show are often a vibrant mix of seasoned funk aficionados, younger listeners discovering instrumental music, and those who simply enjoy a high-energy, danceable performance. Their music transcends genre boundaries, creating a welcoming environment for anyone seeking an authentic, groove-oriented musical experience.

Typically, a Lettuce headlining performance will run for approximately two hours, often featuring a short set break. Opening acts usually align with the band's aesthetic, presenting either instrumental funk, soul, or jazz-influenced groups. The atmosphere in the venue is consistently upbeat and communal; expect a crowd ready to move and engage with the music. While the band’s improvisational nature means set times can vary slightly, the commitment to a full, satisfying musical journey remains constant, making for a memorable night of music.
